Paul Blakemore - Baritone

Paul Blakemore

Born in Wolverhampton, Paul moved to Loughborough over twenty-five years ago to take up a teaching post. Since then he has been involved in many aspects of the town's music life, having been Choirmaster at the Parish Church, on the committee for Loughborough International Singing Week and Musical Director of Loughborough Male Voice Choir.

As a baritone soloist of distinction, Paul has performed throughout Britain and on the continent in recital and oratorio. On stage he has sung many G&S roles such as The Mikado, The Judge (Trial By Jury), Jack Point (Yeomen of the Guard), and roles in other musicals such as that of Pritsch (The Merry Widow) which he sang in 2005. Having come to opera over the last decade, he has sung opera roles such as Colline (La Bohème), Alfio (Cavelleria Rusticana), Remendado (Carmen), The Commissioner and Yamadori (Madame Butterfly) and Orator (Magic Flute). In 2006 Paul was delighted to be able to combine his love of singing with his interest in all things Egyptian when he sang the role of the Pharaoh in (Aida) when his wife, Clare Proctor, sang the title role.

In recent years Paul has been more frequently found in the pit with a baton, and as Resident Musical Director of Charnwood Opera from its inception in 1993 until 2003, Paul was then Musical Director for The Gondoliers (2003), Die Fledermaus (2004) and A Masked Ball (2005). After returning to the stage for Aida in 2006, he was again for MD their 2007 production of La Boheme.

With other members of operahouse, Paul is also involved in Concorde - a small, mainly "a capella" group who perform in a varied range of musical styles around the Midlands.
